Bio

Funny with a point.

Image:
I'm trying to imagine
Why you would take the time
To read a boring bio that
Is not in metered rhyme.

So here's a simple poem
Nothing shady, nothing tricky,
To tell you what you wonder
About "Gilbert, Janet Fricke."

For do you want to know
That I was born in ’59? 1
Or do you care more deeply about
My astrological sign? 2

Want to know the whereabouts
Of all my siblings, five? 3
Or how I've loved my parents
Every day I've been alive? 4

What are the facts,  just the facts,
About my education? 5
Hey, what's my favorite getaway
Vacation destination? 6

Would you like to hear about
The man I still adore?
I’ll say that is too personal--
And then I’ll say no more. 7

But, truth is, if you read between
The lines of columns past
You’ll learn so much about me
You’ll be sorry that you asked!  8

1.  Janet Gilbert was born November 23, 1959, in New Rochelle, New York.

2.  Janet is a Sagittarius. When she reads her horoscope, if it is positive, she believes it; if it is not, she picks a                            different sign with a great outlook and adopts that one for the day.

3. John Fricke,Vermont; Bob Fricke, Hawaii; Joanne Fricke Craig, North Carolina; Patricia Fricke Poulson; Illinois.

4. Sue and Tom Fricke; Florida.

5. B.A. English, Minor Communications/Rutgers University 1981 Phi Beta Kappa/Magna Cum Laude/Rutgers Junior Year Abroad in France/Evelyn Hamilton Literature Award.

6. Anywhere with a beach and the people I love.

7. Janet met John Gilbert on a choral exchange trip when she was a senior in high school.  She did an “Edith Bunker” imitation during the intermission and he was in the audience, and he thought, “Wow, this is some unusual girl.” Or perhaps he thought “She is more radiant than the sun.” Something along these lines.

8. This is a “near rhyme.” Janet hates near rhymes, and she has instilled in her children a hatred of near rhymes.  She hopes you were able to pick this out before reading the footnote.
